Background Information SCAN - Forensic Statement Analysis
This is world-renowned and the original 'forensic statement analysis' technique, which helps you decipher hidden signals within statements (both verbal and written) from witnesses, victims and suspects of crime.
How does it work?
The SCAN statement Analysis training course provides you with a truly amazing technique to help you obtain more information from a suspect than you thought possible. It is particularly good for using pre-interview, to establish who to interview and what questions to ask to reveal the truth. SCAN is non-accusatory and non-threatening and can be used confidently knowing that you are operating within applicable law, including the Human Rights Act.
Developed by Avinoam Sapir, a former psychology professor and Israeli police officer, the SCAN technique relies on the theory that people really want to tell you everything - even when they're guilty!
The SCAN training course will show you how to interpret any statement from beginning to end. Every word in the subject's statement - the pronouns and connections, the subjective time, the changes in language - will 'talk' to you and show you the answer. It will also show you how to obtain a statement from a witness/suspect in their own words without any leading at all from the investigator themselves. Obtaining the complete time-frame required and so on.
In 3 days you will be able to use the technique to unlock hidden information that you would not get just from an interview. The training course will explain the 10 step process that will direct you towards greater interview success by providing more information than initially appears to be available, and show you:
- Whether the subject is truthful or deceptive
- What information the subject is concealing
- Whether or not the subject was involved in the incident/crime
The technique includes the VIEW (Verbal enquiry, the effective witness) questionnaire, which is used to narrow your suspect list. It will narrow your interview options and save manpower, work time and money. It can be used with many people at once, and even remotely, sent by fax anywhere. The questionnaire is an interview in writing. Once a person fills it out, they have already been interviewed in a very structured way on paper. It will guide the interviewer on how to conduct the follow up face to face interview.
SCAN is used all over the world, both commercially and by organisations such as the FBI and is probably the original FSA technique. It solves cases using a completely different set of rules, and provides a vital new tool to the investigator, often solving cases previously unresolved.
